Changes in the 1980s
The 1980s saw some significant changes to the USN campus. Smoking and loitering were prohibited on "The Wall," where once students escaped to socialize and relax. The Board of Trustees voted to convert the 21st avenue tennis courts into commercial parking. The West Wing was added, providing a new home for the lower school, and the Sperling Center, named after beloved director Harvey Sperling, opened in 1989.
