The Volunteer, 1971
*Notice something strange? Where's the 1970 Volunteer, you ask?
Until very recently, the 1970 Volunteer was MIA. The good news is that we have just been promised a copy. In the meantime, please enjoy the 1971 edition of the yearbook.
The 1971 Volunteer shows both sides of life at PDS: while every student is shown in a formal pose, from Kindergarten all the way through seniors, the many candid photos scattered throughout also show the lighter side of life at PDS. Candid classroom scenes reveal students’ studious and silly sides. Snapshots taken around the school show friends enjoying life in familiar locations and poses. A lovely highlight of this yearbook are the many photos that show students laughing: mouths open, heads thrown back, joy emanating from every part of themselves.
The 1970s were just starting but PDS students were already embracing the decade’s fashion and culture. Girls wore their hair long, their skirts short, and bold patterns and plaid in their dresses or pantsuits. Boys hair was getting long and shaggy, and they seemed to favor button-down shirts for everyday. As always, organizations, clubs, performing arts, and sports kept student busy, active in their beloved PDS, and ready for the ever-evolving world that awaited them.
